Description

Utterly unique Antique French sleeve pattern with surviving rare lace making in progress from the late 19th century.

This truly special piece is an unfinished bobbin tape lace on its original pattern. The pattern is drawn onto thick linen, which in turn is hand stitched to a parchment paper underneath. The lace has been worked following the pattern. The lace style is Point de France. Based on the pattern and style, we believe it was meant to be lace for a sleeve in the Gibson girl fashion of the 1890s.

We could see this framed and hung on a wall of someone passionate about antique and vintage clothing, or lace work.

The lace is in excellent condition, with only some slight discolouration of age from a white to an antique cream. The lace is still attached to the pattern. The paper and linen pattern is a triangular shape. The lace pattern is still clearly visible on the thick linen. The pattern has obviously been reused a few times. There are some creases in the linen and paper, but no tears. The lace, where done, is in complete condition. It is a real piece of history.

This large pattern measures 57 cm (22.5 inches) long by 47 cm (18.5 inches) wide at the wide end.
