Description

Quite unique: Six nice caps which can be dated in the time of Jane Austen: 1800-1825. I offer six of them from 1 closet!
At first view they all six looks the same, but they are all different, special the decorations. Undoubtedly they belonged to one former owner. Because itu2019s a set now we can compare them to each other. How many caps this lady should have had in her closet?
The cambric one and one cotton item have a little woven motif. The fabric of the other four is decorated with knot stitched which are placed over the cloth in different motifs. Five in the front are subtle decorated by a hand embroidered meandering motif, in tambour-work or in combination with knots stitches. The lappets can be knotted under the chin. Probably these caps were used as night caps, morning caps or house caps.

Condition: Extraordinary good for their age! The cambric one has an almost invisible mending at the bottom in the front. One has some little blue spots and one has some miniscule brown spots. But really very, very good condition.

Measurements width ca. 20 cm. height ca. 23 cm. (7,9 x 9 inch.)

Material: Five caps of cotton and one of cambric. The basics forms are equal, in the decoration they are all different. All sewed by hand.
