Description

Here is a wonderful find from the elegant late 1930s/early 1940s Art Deco era - a lovely red and black stripe design on silver chrome metal with an orangey-red and cream tassel attached to the lipstick holder that slips in down the end. There is a powder compartment under the stripe design front, with a spring-loaded lid, sifter and powder puff intact, and a mirror in lovely as-new condition.
This measures 8cms long x 4.5cms wide x 1.1cm thick (3 1/8" x 1 3/4" x 1/2") with an extra bit for the tassel...

CONDITION:-
The condition is OK rather than very good, but this isn't really surprising considering its great age. Someone has taken care of this for the last seventy or so years, but there are quite a few nicks and dents in the enamel work. There appears to be a bit of repainting of the black enamel just where the stripe ends, which probably improves the look but isn't that accurate really. Please take a close look at the last two photos as they reveal everything. The surface scratches evident are only to be expected in such a vintage item. However, the design is lovely and would make a superb addition to your vintage Art Deco 1930s/40s collection.

I have no idea which brand made this, as there are no identifying marks or logos of any kind. I have had another powder compact in exactly the same range as this, which was a bit bigger and had a cigarette case in the back. That one had the word 'Foreign' on the inside of the powder well. My guess is possibly Japanese as they made a lot of these for the tourist market in the pre-war years.
