Offered are a pair of adjustable shoe or boot stretchers dating to the late 19th or early 20th century.
These lasts are complete, without damage, and in working order. They do have plenty of marks from use as well as lots of patina. They have been rubbed back, cleaned, then oiled and waxed before being polished back. The wood appears to be yew but could also be a fruit wood (apple or pear seems most likely).
The pieces are made by the American company Sororis. Sorosis operated from 1897 to the early 1920s. These stretchers date to that period but there is no date visible to tie is down further. There is a thread between the two wooden blocks to make the stretcher longer. Fully closed, each measures 10 inches and the thread will extend approximately another inch. They are approximately 5 inches high.
The Sorosis logo is stamped to the inside of each back block. There are numbers stamped to the fronts.
The stretchers will stand upright without any additional support needed.
