Description

Beautiful mauve and pink hand blown Caithness 'Triple Crown' glass paperweight measuring approx. 8.5cms (3 1/8 inches) in diameter and 7cms (2 3/4 inches) tall. Viewed from the top of the paperweight, that design comprises of three large air bubbles with a layer of tiny equally spaced air bubbles floating above.

From side on, the design looks like a crown with three points (with some imagination) with a fine mist of pale mauve running between them.

The base of the paperweight is flat so that it can stand steady and has engraved the serial number c28078 'Caithness Triple Crown Scotland' it also has the original sticker that warns 'do not place in direct sunlight'.

This is a rare pre-loved item and is in good condition with only a couple of tiny scratches if you look very closely, which you would expect for it's age. Great as part of a collection or to give as a gift.

About Caithness Glass

Caithness Glass is a Scottish artistic glassware manufacturing company. It was established in Wick, Caithness, Scotland in 1961 by Robin Sinclair, 2nd Viscount Thurso (but since 2006 has been based in Crieff, Perthshire). The company was created to help create additional employment in the face of continuing decline in local fishing and agriculture and also to take advantage of the easy availability of sand for glassmaking in Caithness. The company was awarded a Royal Warrant by the Queen Mother in 1968.

Manufacturing was initially solely located in Wick, with a second facility being opened in Oban in 1969 and Perth in 1979. Caithness Glass went into receivership in 2004, was bought by the owners of Edinburgh Crystal, but again went into receivership in 2006. It was bought (out of receivership) in October 2006 by Dartington Crystal and continues to manufacture and sell glass paperweights. The factories in Wick, Oban and Perth all closed and were replaced by a smaller operation and visitors' centre in Crieff.
