Magnificent, large sized French vintage tin from early 1900s with beautiful stylized lettering and image depicting plums on branch.
The French word "prunes" stands for "plums". Prunes dEnte (Entes plums) is a local variety which have been introduced from the Middle East at the time of the Crusades and was first cultivated in the orchards of the Benedictine monastery of Clairac in Lot-et-Garonne Region in the South East France.
It was probably the monks who first practiced plum drying. This variety was formerly called Agen plum or Datte plum (dried Agen plums are my personal n°1 treat ??)
rare find! Condition shown on the pictures.
