Description

Antique Tekke Bokhara rug carpet, circa 1880 (more than 120 years old). Measures: 2'10 x 3'4. Bokara or Bokhara rugs are named after the city where they were sold. These rugs were made by Turkoman tribes, and these weavers gave the rug its distinctive design. At the end of the 20th century, carpet weaving in Turkmenistan had become one of the most important sectors of the economy. Red, in various shades is the color they are known for together with their fine and silky weave. These famous Bokhara designs have been copied over the years by weavers from various countries. Tekke is the most important of the Turkoman tribes in the nineteenth century and their signature design is the elephant footprint.

This Bokara rug's design was made by tribes in whats known as modern day Russia.

Condition:

In great overall condition considering its age. Pile almost in perfect condition, not worn. Some minor wear on the pile for one corner on the pile. There has been a reparation of one hole ((see pictures). Another very small hole is present, hard to notice on one of the borders. Please carefully look at pictures to get a good idea of the condition.
