Description

An exquisite genuine antique early 19th century silver figural needle case. The needle holder in the form of an elegant gentleman in a Venetian style costume with a plumed hat, knee breeches, tasseled tunic, holding a small trumpet(?).
Opening to the waist.
With two hallmarks, a helmeted head, similar seen for the French Provinces for small silver, and "13" for 13 Lot, 812 standard silver.
Perhaps France 1800-20. No later than 1850.

6.3g.

7cm high. In inches 2 3/4".
The base 2cm x 1.1cm. In inches 3/4" x 1/2".

There is some confusion as to where these figural needle cases originate. Theriaultu00b4s, the auction house describes a very similar figure as French circa 1800 and I am going with that as the mark could be a provincial French hallmark from 1790-1800. The costume described as traditional costume.

I always try to offer these needle cases if I can purchase one at a reasonable price! In very good antique condition especially considering the age of 200 years! The costume is very charming. With hallmarks, which are hard to determine despite being very clear.
A rare and collectible needlework tool.
