Description

The Crios is an Irish woven woollen belt in bright colours which is traditionally used in Celtic handfasting ceremonies.

This crios is in the high key colours beloved of the Aran Islanders, Inis Meain being one of those islands.

This pattern is symmetrical, symbolizing the balance of the masculine and the feminine. In the centre a red double helix suggests the essence of creation running through life.

In Celtic Mythology red is a sacred colour, symbolizing the life blood. Yellow is the colour of the sun, the shafts of light entering the chamber and fertilizing the dark womb of the Goddess at the darkest hour of the year, Winter Solstice.

Water and Air are also represented in the blues and white.

This cord is made from Aran Yarn from Irelandu2019s two remaining woollen mills in Kerry and Donegal. It measures 78" long and 1.5" wide, perfect for tying around the wedding couples hands twice, with room for the knot on top. (2m x 4cm approx.)
