Description

Here is an antique Schuco Bellhop felt monkey doll with working Yes No neck mechanism, produced from 1921 on. Our old monkey page or messenger measures 28 cm / 11 inches sitting, and 35 cm / 14 inches standing ? as you can see in the photographs, the old monkey can stand perfectly by its own without any aid.

The neck mechanism is called Yes/No because the monkey doll moves its head sideways or back and forth when the metal handle (once covered with plush, now bare) is moved, so the tail turns the head.
The mechanism works perfectly to this day, the sideways movement is easier to achieve than the nodding, this takes some practice, but it can be done!

Schuco was a very famous German Toy manufacturer, founded in 1912 , who came up with this patent in 1921, and had much success with those teddy bears and monkeys, especially with the Bellhops!

Our antique messenger monkey here has disk jointed arms and legs, it is firmly stuffed with excelsior (wood wool), which can be seen through some of the holes some moths must have made in over 100 years. All in all the red and black felt of the old monkey is very good preserved, the colours are surprisingly fresh! Please, do see all the photographs, I tried to depict the condition of the old mechanical toy as best as possible.
The head, now appearing brown, and the lower part of the face once had mohair, now only the ground fabric remains, the hair is almost all gone.
The glass eyes of vintage Schuco monkey are original, as is everything else!
No restoration attempts have disfigured the sweet old monkey doll!

*Please, be aware that NO decorations you see in the photographs will come with the antique Schuco page monkey, this listing is for the old Yes / No monkey doll ONLY! (In the last photo you see this sweet monkey working in a posh Hotel during the Holiday season)
