u201cIris` is a beautiful, soft yarn I spun from fleece I purchased a while ago. I store fleece in airtight buckets or bins, and the wool can stay fresh for a long, long time - especially if the bin is hidden behind other stuff in the garage! So it was a nice surprise to find a huge storage bin of Border Leicester fleeces - yes two fleeces - from twins, u201cEthel` and u201cLucy`, of Indian Brook Farm, Swanzey, NH. Iu2019m so happy I found the fleeces, but sad because the farm no longer exists. Spinning u201cIris u201c brought me wonderful memories of visiting that farm.
I dyed the yarn to produce some color variation, and i am pleased with the results. The wool is worsted weight, soft to touch, but with body and strength. It has a gentle lustre. I included a photo of the raw fleece; with some effort, and an expectation of a lovely yarn, it is possible to turn a smelly mess into u201cIris`.
