BUREL
Burel is an exceptional 100% medieval sheep wool fabric exclusive to Portugal, originating from the rugged landscapes of Serra da Estrela. This fabric undergoes a specific manufacturing process to become burel. After shearing, washing, spinning, warping, and weaving, the wool is pounded in a machine called a "pisau0303o," transforming the fabric into burelu2014tighter, more resistant, and waterproof.

MANUFACTURING PROCESS
Shearing: As spring arrives, it's time to shear the wool, ensuring its growth for the next winter. Approximately 6kg of wool is extracted from each sheep, with only 3kg of fine wool being utilized.

Spinning: Whether done manually or electrically, spinning transforms wool into yarn by twisting its fibers to achieve the desired thickness.

Selection: Only the highest quality wool from the sheep's back is used for textile purposes, characterized by its length and cleanliness.

Weaving: Fabric creation involves interlacing weft and warp threads. The weaving tradition in Serra da Estrela dates back to the Paleolithic era.
