Description

This is a charming Petanque Ball with rounded nails with the numbers u201c08` etched on to it.
The game of "Petanque" is the French version of Bocce as the Italians would play. Before petanque balls were mass produced, they were hand made, carved from the roots of the Boxwood shrub. This is a great example of that old method and makes a great addition to any rustic setting, Mediterranean or South of France themed space or boules fan.
It is unique to find as we have rarely seen Petanque Balls with large rounded nails. Usually Petanque Balls have "scale" nails - which resemble a fish scale.
We believe this one is one of the oldest version of a Petanque Ball.

WHAT MAKES THIS PIECE UNIQUE (assembly, condition)

The fact that boules were carved from the roots of the Boxwood shrub is fascinating in itself. Boxwood shrubs are a staple of the south of France and itu2019s interesting to see how resourceful they were to create a game using the natural resources they had access to. You donu2019t have to be a big fan of Petanque or Bocce to appreciate this craftsmanship.

Note the video shows the ball before we polished it to its final luster. It will be a gorgeous ornamental object once you receive it!
