Description

This item is a Kyusu teapot made by Tokoname ware potter, Sendo Watanabe. And, its work features simplified and simple crab carving.

Tokoname ware is stoneware fired in the Chita Peninsula, centered around Tokoname City, Aichi Prefecture, and surrounding areas. It is one of the six ancient kilns in Japan.

In 2017, Tokoname ware was recognized as one of Japan's six ancient kilns, along with Seto ware, Echizen ware, Tamba Tachikui ware, Bizen ware, and Shigaraki ware, as part of Japan's heritage.

Today, Tokoname ware is known for its iconic brick-red clay called shudei. Famously used in teaware and bonsai pots, this clayu2019s vibrant colour comes from its rich iron content. Tea steeped in unglazed Tokoname teapots is said to have a mellower taste.
