Purple zisha clay, a purple sand clay, is found near the city of Yixing. The material is porous. Teapots made from this type of clay absorb the aroma of the tea. This improves the taste of the tea. The type of clay also retains heat. Zisha teapots are especially suitable for black teas and pu-erh and oolong teas. The tea is best enjoyed when a zisha teapot is used for a type of tea. So a separate teapot for each favorite type of tea.
