Description

Collaged silk textile, is created with silks dyed in natural dyes. The final composition is machine-stiched and detailed with an application of 3-D petals.
Technique
I follow centuries-old techniques of dyeing fabric with natural dyes and combine them with the more contemporary method of eco/contact-printing with leaves, stems and flowers, and roots. The process of unlocking pigments and tannins in the botanical material is as important to me as the graphic vocabulary that shapes my work. The printed silk is collaged with naturally dyed fine silk, cut to its final form, machine-stiched, and detailed with hand-stitching.

Material
I am printing on 100% vintage linen and silk Habotai, 5 mm. I use only natural dyes extracted from plants. The botanical material I use in my work comes from my dyeru2019s garden.
In the backing, I use eco-printed 100% cotton.

Installation
At the top and the bottom of the cotton backing are two sewn sleeves. A piece of pine wood baseboard is inserted in each sleeve. On each end of the top wood piece is a screw eye for a small nail driven into the wall. The sleeves are slightly shorter so the nails are not visible when the artwork is installed.

Care
Treat the fiber artwork the same way as watercolor artwork. Do not hang it in direct sun.
Occasionally, take a fine brush and gently dust the art piece. Most of the dust usually collects on the top edge.
Do not wash or dry clean.
