Description

Beautifully soft and light Possum Merino hand dyed yarn!

80% New Zealand Merino and 20% Possum fur yarn, this yarn is dyed in skeins in small batches with fibre reactive dyes.

Possums were introduced from Australia to New Zealand where they have become an invasive pest. As they have to be eradicated to protect the native wildlife, the fur and items which come from the possums are used and not wasted. In this yarn, possum fur is blended with merino wool to create a warm and lightweight yarn perfect for many seasons.

The base yarn is super lightweight and airy. It is a 8ply yarn and would be suitable for light shawls and lacework, or super soft and warm socks!

The skeins are dyed shades of blue and orange. The colour is named after the planet Mercury. Mercury is the closest planet to the sun, and is intensely hot. However when it is in front of the sun, it appears as a dark spot. The contrasting colours in this yarn represent the dark and light appearances of the planet depending on where it is in it's orbit.

This yarn was dyed by me in Canberra.

The mix of colours in this skein creates a really beautiful colour tonal effect when knitted or crocheted.

Because this yarn is hand dyed, there is a very small chance of colour bleeding. All care has been taken to remove excess dye, and all my yarns are pre-washed and rinsed.
It is unlikely it will bleed, but still possible.
If this is a concern, it is recommended that you add vinegar to the water when washing to prevent colour transferring.

Yarn caking service available on all yarns- select the Yes! Option from the drop down menu to have your yarn wound into centre pull cakes for easy crafting!

I only use recycled and biodegradable material in my packaging. For clothing, I do re-use plastic bags to keep them from getting wet in transit. Reusing old bags reduces the need to make new ones.
Wherever possible I do avoid plastic packaging.
