Description

Beautifully soft super warm rare breed yarn! This yarn is lofty and warm.

75% New Zealand Merino and 25% wild Arapawa wool yarn, this yarn is dyed in skeins in small batches with fibre reactive dyes.

The Arapawa Sheep is a breed of feral sheep found primarily on Arapaoa Island (formerly called Arapawa Island) in the Marlborough Sounds, New Zealand. The New Zealand Rare Breeds Conservation Society classifies it as "rare". This breed is raised primarily for wool.

The base yarn is a blend of white Merino and natural coloured Arapawa wool. It is a 4ply 3 fold yarn which has a beautiful heathered finish. Combining Merino and Arapawa and processing on Woollen spinning creates a yarn that is very light and bouncy. When knitted the garment is warm with a lovely squishy feel.

The skeins are dyed shades of blue and orange. The colour is named after the planet Mercury. Mercury is the closest planet to the sun, and is intensely hot. However when it is in front of the sun, it appears as a dark spot. The contrasting colours in this yarn represent the dark and light appearances of the planet depending on where it is in it's orbit.

This yarn was dyed by me in Canberra.

The mix of colours in this skein creates a really beautiful colour tonal effect when knitted or crocheted.

Because this yarn is hand dyed, there is a very small chance of colour bleeding. All care has been taken to remove excess dye, and all my yarns are pre-washed and rinsed.
It is unlikely it will bleed, but still possible.
If this is a concern, it is recommended that you add vinegar to the water when washing to prevent colour transferring.
