A little more about me and my studio practice...

I make all my work by hand in my peaceful studio on the Moray Firth in Scotland,

I have been a potter for the last nine years after discovering the amazing joy of working with porcelain on a potteru2019s wheel. After making my name with cups, bowls and vases, about 5 years ago I began making jewellery too.

Each ceramic circle begins as a pot which I throw by hand on my potteru2019s wheel. I then carefully slice off part of the pot as it is spinning round to create a circle of porcelain. Then I fire each circle, smooth it, glaze it, fire it again and give it a final diamond-polish. Each necklace takes about 3 weeks from start to finish. Porcelain is a surprisingly strong material. It is fired to 1260c in an electric kiln and is therefore water tight. Any marks on the bare porcelain can be removed with a toothbrush and soapy water or wet sandpaper.u00a0

A really lovely part of my work is hearing back from people who have bought pieces, either for themselves or as gifts from others. As so many people buy jewellery and other items as gifts, I pay close attention to the packaging and presentation. Each item arrives in a gift box and is carefully wrapped in crisp, white, luxury tissue with a hand-written message from me to add to the sense of specialness for the person receiving the gift.

People often buy my work as an anniversary gift. The traditional wedding gift for the 5thu00a0anniversary is wood, for the 9thu00a0itu2019s pottery and for the 18thu00a0and 20th itu2019s porcelain.
